SUMMARY:LBS attending Eastbourne bonfire celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Safety \nOur number one priority is the safety of the public\, the participants and associated services that make up \nour event. Please listen carefully to any safety instructions on the day and look out for our marshals and \nsecurity who will be instructing on the night. Vigilance is important – if you see anything that concerns you\, \nfrom dangerous behaviour to unattended bags or hostile vehicles\, please report it to a marshal\, member of \nsecurity\, or EBS member immediately. \nForming-up \nSocieties and bands are advised to meet from 18.00 at the Crown & Anchor pub (BN21 3DX). \nDue to limited space\, we ask you do not arrive at the pub before 17.30. On arrival please can your \nbanner carrier or lead member make contact with myself\, Stuart Chadwick (pictured further down). \nPlease identify two named members of your society to act as walking marshals – bring high viz jackets if \nyou can. We will be calling upon these members of your group if help is needed at our event. \nEastbourne only\, will take a memorial parade to the war memorial near the pier at 18.30. \nAt 19.00 Bonfire Societies will be asked to form up on Marine Parade (seafront)\, while bands should form \nup on Marine Parade Road outside the Crown & Anchor. \nThe order of procession\, will be supplied prior to the event but please check on arrival with for the latest \nversion. As the procession moves off\, bands will be inserted into the procession between the societies. This \nreduces the potential for congestion immediately around the Crown & Anchor. \nFirst Procession \nAt 19.15 the 1st procession will head eastbound (towards Fisherman’s Green) from the Crown & Anchor \nand will turn round at Treasure Island to return to the Crown & Anchor along the same route. Please be aware that as the procession turns around it will be occupying both sides of the road meaning \nthat lit torches will be passing in close proximity\, extra care should therefore be taken to ensure no clashing \nof torches or people occurs. \nOn arrival at the Crown & Anchor\, members of Eastbourne Bonfire Society will facilitate de-torching in \nMarine Parade. \nThere will be an approx. 20 minute interval. We will be re-forming during this time with\, the Effigy Team \nand accompanying band forming up for a prompt 20.30 departure. To enable this\, please keep someone \nfrom your society in the forming-up area at all times\, so you know where you’re departing from! \nSecond Procession \nAt 20.30 the full procession will depart from Marine Parade outside the Crown & Anchor. The same order \nof procession will be used as for Procession One. \nAt approximately 20.35\, the procession will enter the town\, to take in a new route comprising Victoria \nPlace\, Trinity Trees\, Bolton Road and Terminus Rd before returning to the seafront. \nAt 21.30 the procession will head west from Victoria Place to the RLNI Museum\, down the Wish Tower \nslope to the fire site\, located on the beach. \nThe fire site \nUpon arrival at the fire site please listen carefully to instructions given by the Eastbourne Bonfire Society \nmarshals. We hope to allow parade members to use torches to light the bonfire but if requested to do so\, \nplease give up your torch on arrival. \nBonfire societies and bands will be directed on to the beach\, the exact area will be wind dependent. We ask \nthat you do not congregate immediately on arrival but move on as directed. Any persons/bands not wishing \nto join us at the fire site should leave the procession via Carlisle Road\, this is right of the point where the \nparade turns down to the fire site. \nFireworks \nDesignated EBS members only will\, in a controlled way\, use fire crackers at the Wish Tower. \nNo discharging of any fireworks including rookies or flares are allowed within the main processions\, on \nthe fire site or on the public highways\, and please no banger carts. Any offenders will be identified\, \nreported to the authorities and dealt with at or after the event. \nTorches \nPlease carefully place used torches at either side of the road. Do not throw torches and only discard them \nif they have burned out or are burning dangerously. Due to the close proximity of parked cars on the route\, \nplease avoid placing spent torches near cars and do not allow torches to create mini bonfires. A pickup \nteam will follow the procession. Due to this year’s extended route\, we need to make torches go as far as \npossible\, so please don’t replace torches unless you really need to. Re-torching is on a first-come\, first- \nserved basis.Where possible\, please don’t drop torches during the town centre section of the procession. Please look for \ntorch pickers who will be moving through the procession collecting spent torches. Make sure you do not \ndiscard torches at the base of trees under any circumstances. \nArriving and parking \nRoad closures will begin at 18.00. If arriving before that time\, on the seafront (B2106) parking is available \nat Redoubt car park (Treasure Island) but please note parking charges apply until 18.00. \nFor those arriving after 18:00\, Fisherman’s Green car park (also on the seafront) is a good option\, as it is \noutside all road closures. Charges also apply here before 20:00. \nThere may be street parking nearer to the Crown & Anchor pub and the fire site end of the seafront\, but \nthis is usually limited and not within our control\, very popular with the public and standard parking fees \nand arrangements apply. \nAdditionally\, there is a pay-for car park at Trinity Place at the fire site end of town. Please remember the \nroad closures will be in place from 18.00 and at the fire site end of town may not be fully lifted till 23.00. \nToilets \nPublic toilets are available on the seafront near the pier and the bandstand\, and we will have portaloos \navailable by the Crown & Anchor pub and at the fire site for after the parade. Toilets are also available in \nthe Crown & Anchor and the Fisherman’s Club (at Fisherman’s Green) but we ask that you purchase a drink
