All you need to know…
This year Lindfield Bonfire Society is holding its celebrations on Wednesday 5th November.
The evening of our free-to-attend celebration starts with a torchlit procession around the village by LBS members and those of visiting societies, which heads to the Common for the reading of the Bonfire Prayer and lighting of the bonfire. We finish the evening with our grand firework Display.
Money raised from our street collection on the night is distributed to the local children’s charities that we support: Riding for the Disabled, The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA), Finley’s Touch and Orchard House. PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY.
It costs approximately £18,000 per year to stage our event. This is raised throughout the year by our dedicated members. We ask spectators to consider donating to our funds to contribute towards our costs. Had you been attending a private display locally you would have been asked to pay between £10-£20 per adult. Giving us a couple of quid isn’t much really is it?
You can donate via the collection buckets that circulate on the night, or online by accessing our Sumup link, or buy one of our programmes from one of the many outlets in the village selling them or from our online store for a minimum donation of £2
We really look forward to welcoming you to our night, but there are seven important things you must observe to make sure that you and everyone else has a safe and enjoyable night:
- NO FIREWORKS. Do not bring any fireworks, including sparklers, to our event. Fireworks are dangerous and it is against the law to use them in a public place. LBS operate a strict no fireworks policy outside of our display area and the discharging of rookies, bangers or any other type of firework is not permitted before, during or after the event in the public areas.
- THE PROCESSION. For the safety of all, only members of Lindfield Bonfire Society, invited bonfire societies and invited organisations are permitted to walk in the procession. Members of the public should stay on footpaths at all times and out of the way of the procession.
- DROPPED TORCHES. Flaming torches are dangerous and if they have been discarded on the ground it is because they are no longer safe to carry. Do not pick up any discarded torches. They will be picked up by members of the team.
- DO NOT BRING PETS WITH YOU. There will be naked flames, loud bangs and large crowds so please leave pets at home.
- NO DRONES. We operate a no drones policy at our event. For public safety reasons we do not allow drones and anyone found operating a drone will be reported to the Police
- OBEY ROAD CLOSURES. Road closures are put in place for the safety of the procession and the public. Only official vehicles and emergency vehicles are allowed to move within the road closure area. The driver of any unauthorised vehicle breaching road closure orders commit an offence and are liable to be reported and face potential prosecution.
- BE CONSIDERATE. Please be considerate to local residents and their property before, during and after our event.
